Communications via BT - Official satellite telecom supplier to Clipper Ventures

A fairly wet and bumpy start to the voyage but spare a thought for some of the skimmers ahead on their way to Crosshaven (Cork harbour) on the first leg of the two handed Round Britain and Ireland Race.

Ariel and Antiope set off as planned after Plymouth Sound said farewell to the 48 competitors on the two handed race. This was a special moment for Sir Robin who has sailed in the race six times and won it twice. He was not especially communicative when I asked him what happened on the four occasions when he did not win other than to point out nobody else had matched his record!

Mervyn Wheatley, skipper of Thermopylae in Clipper 96 was one of the entries in his new 42 ft boat Tamarind.

One note of interest is that there are still one or two places for the later legs in the Greenland voyages if you decide you can not let the others have all the fun. Two more crew signed on today!

For those interested in communicating with the yachts you will find my notes on how this is done on the Clipper Ventures home page.

That’s all for today. Updates should normally be posted by 1000BST
