Report from Sir Robin Ariel at 0800BST 10 June
Position Lat 51 20N Long 009 56W 20 Miles South of the Fastnet Rock
1,246 miles to cape Farvel (Cape Farewell in English)
We hove to for 3 hours to allow Antiope to join up and she is now 400 yards astern. The coast of Ireland is in sight which is good news but always a shame to sail past this lovely area without stopping. The wind is forecast to veer (go clockwise) to the North and it is already from the North West and now force 8
All the crew are now eating and no one has been seasick for the last 12 hours. We all enjoyed a splendid chicken Balti last night.
The bashing over the last few days was unfortunate but everyone now knows what the worst can be like. A good sign is that the barometer is finally rising and we have been enjoying sunny patches between the squalls.

One problem Sir Robin appears to be having is with the programme giving the boat information on his new Mitac Computer system. Apart from the normal uses as a WP this displays a variety of information including:
- The electronic ARCS charts supplied by the UK Hydrographic Office
- The boat information such as speed, log distance, wind speed and direction etc etc. This includes periodic recording of this data which can be displayed as a graph. (This is the part not working fully at present)
- The InmarsatC communications. This uses Trimble hardware and BT as the service provider. (This is working well with both boats)
- Weather Fax via the HF radio
Although the computer is working some of the instructions Sir Robin is getting are thought to be in Italian. Sir Robin has just replied that the crew are now debating that the language is in fact Icelandic or even Nordic. In this case the computer will start to feel more at home as their passage takes them to the North West.
