Report from Sir Robin Ariel at 0800BST 11 June

Position: South of Dursey Head (Western Headland of Bantry Bay SW Ireland)

1,230 miles to cape Farvel (Cape Farewell in English)

After a hard few days sailing from Plymouth and with the wind veering to the North West it was time for a quick break! Yesterday PM the two Clippers sailed into Bantry Bay and entered the lovely harbour of Castletown Bearhaven tucked snugly in behind Bear Island.

Like sailors everywhere the crew enjoyed a glass or two of the black stuff in a real Irish pub last night as they waited for the conditions to improve. Castletown was voted a lovely little town with scenery reminiscent of Scotland's West Coast.

At 0540 this morning both Clippers eased themselves away from the harbour wall and set off on a still bright morning. The wind is forecast to be from the South force 6/7 later today and the crews are looking forward to a good fast reach and the proper start of their passage to Greenland.
