Antiope Clipper 0008 12 June

From Mike Harry (Skipper)

Position: 1800 GMT 53.00N16.00W

We are making good progress along the Rhumb Line towards Cape Farewell and are now some 240 miles WNW of Mizzen Head in SW Ireland.

Crossed 15 degrees longitude today. This makes the boat time GMT+2hrs. Effectively an extra hour has to be worked between the watches, this has been requested to coincide with happy hour so the crew can make it last twice as long!

The crew have been organised into 2 watches, 6hrs during the day, 4hrs at night, with one member of each watch taken out of the system for 24 hrs to act as Mother Watch. They then carry out cooking & cleaning duties, including everyone's favourite the Heads (loo!). They are then excused night watches and have a good nights sleep.

Good news for Chris Hailey today (he's on Mother Watch)as his parents contacted him via the inmarsat to inform him he has passed all his 3rd year exams.

Ariel Clipper 2045 12 June

From Alex Thompson (Mate)

Position: 2045 GMT 53.25N 15.59W

Now making fantastic progress towards Cape Farvell and having broken the 1000 nautical miles to go the crew are in high spirits. Screaming along at 10 knots is very exhilarating especially when we have to do a headsail change! Conditions onboard have improved greatly since Robin decreed NBD (national bath day), so at great expense we have all had a shower. Thankfully the watermaker kept up with the demand!

Balti seems to be the fashionable meal this week with spaghetti Balti last night and Balti veg tonight, never any left for the fishes though. Trying to use up all the fresh meats before it goes bad so we are eating like kings.

Overcast today so no sun sights although we did get some star sights last night. Everyone having fun.
More soon

No comment today as I am making a dawn start to visit the two Clippers in Portsmouth (Gosport). More sponsors logos to go on and 20 crew members joining for Part A Training.

Two comments tomorrow!
