Antiope Clipper 0107 GMT 14 June
From Mike Harry (Skipper)
Position at 2330 14 June 55.51 24.37W
After being forced to Motor sail most of the day we made our rendezvous with Ariel at 1800 GMT
Soon after the wind filled in from the South and both yachts were able to hoist spinnakers for the first time. After two hours our spinnaker halyard broke which called for all hands on deck to recover the sail from the water. Half an hour later the sail had been re-hoisted on spare halyard with no damage done to it. We are now two thirds of a mile astern of Ariel with her masthead light twinkling in the twilight.
Peter Nixon on starboard watch has been writing poems in quieter moments. The first one is titled 'Don't Quit' after our arrival in Castletown Bearhaven and his experience of conditions in our first gale. Last few lines read
It may be near when it seems so far
So stick to the fight when your hardest hit
Its when things go wrong
that u must not quit
Regards to all Mike

Ariel Clipper 0716 14 June
From Sir Robin Knox-Johnston
Position at 0800 GMT 56.20N 26.13W
Distance to go to Cape Farvell 588 n miles
Rendezvous with Antiope last night and they passed over a Chimp pump gasket so we could pump out our grey water tank. We both then set spinnakers and headed straight for Cape Farvell through the night. Touched 17.9 knots on one surf! Antiope not in sight at present.
The dominating weather feature at present is a low to the west of us which is moving towards Ireland. This will be passing to the south of us.
That's it. Some really good progress to report!

Two 'grey water tanks' are fitted. One for the galley sink and one for the basin/shower in the heads. The 'grey water' drains down into the collecting tanks and is then pumped over the side by hand using the two Chimp pumps.
Boat Tour 1
I will start below and work forward from aft over the next few days. We will then go on deck …
Right aft, and with its own hatch, is the gas stowage locker with the two ready use propane bottles in it. This sticks down into the lazarette which has a hatch just astern of the helmsman. This is a large space and has stowage for two more gas bottles and all the fenders. It is also the space where all the non biodegradable gash is stowed. This gash is wrapped in two bags and stored until the yachts reach port where it is disposed of correctly. It is interesting to see that with a bit of thought and management the problem of gash can be solved and after all it all came from onboard in the first place!
The main space aft is the generator room below the cockpit and accessed through a watertight door behind the oilskin locker. The three cylinder Perkins/Sabre generator charges the batteries, powers the HP pump for the water maker, acts as an emergency bilge pump and heats the domestic hot water.
There is quite a lot of space in this compartment for stores that are held behind cargo netting. This keeps it clear of the machinery and especially the steering gear which is at the aft end of the space, directly over the rudder stock. The hot water tank and the Seafresh watermaker are on the port side of the compartment.
For one reason or another I found I spent lots of time in the generator room. Unfortunately because the cockpit sticks down into the centre of the compartment one ends up by working in a crouched position and constantly banging one's head. With all their extra stores and equipment this compartment is very full and I am sure they will be having a lovely time trying to find things stowed at the back!
The log entries are produced from messages sent by both Clipper yachts via their InmarsatC using BT satellite services. The intention is to have them published by 1000BST daily
