Antiope Clipper 0133 GMT 17 June
From Mike Harry (Skipper)
Position at 2345 16 June
58.28N 35.14W Course 310 Speed 8 Knots
After glorious cold, crisp but sunny day we are now beating into force 4 westerly wind some 250 nautical miles SE of Cape Farewell. The forecast is for light and variable winds over next 24 hrs with NE Gales developing to the south of us. However the west wind accompanied with drop in the barometric pressure suggests the low is developing to the west of our present position. We obtained our first ice rep from Greenland today which shows ice extending 60mls south of Cape Farewell so tomorrow we will start our iceberg watch.
During the afternoon Mark Hampton (the brave Mate) went aloft to re-reeve the spinnaker halyard and inspect the whole rig on a routine basis. All was in order and we have him back on deck chattering away as normal.
Regards to all

Ariel Clipper 0740 17 June
From Sir Robin Knox-Johnston
Position at 0800 GMT 17 June 59.11N 36.04W
After yesterday's beautiful weather we awake today to a grade A grey day, cold wind from the north west blowing off the ice cap. There is some condensation in the cabin and we are having a bumpy beat to windward so progress has slowed from our great sail yesterday.
After a madras curry last night Alex decided to bake some bread and over kneaded the dough. The result was that it expanded and totally filled the oven. The back got burnt and the next thing that happened was that the fire alarms were set off. Obviously an omission in the mate's training here and we will have to keep him on baking duties until he gets it right. Other skippers be warned!
We believe Antiope is 30 miles south of us but radio contact poor at present

Boat Tour 2
Just forward of the generator compartment is the heart of the boat. On the starboard side there is a small hanging cupboard where the crews will have hung there dinner jackets and other smart gear they will have doubtless taken.
One of the modifications to the yachts this year is that the SSB HF radio has been moved from the consul in front of the navigator into the top of the wardrobe space. This is because the new computer takes up quite a lot more room and also it has proved beneficial to keep the HF away from the other equipment to minimise the mutual interference. Another concern has always been the heat generated by all the electronics and the HF set in particular and so this arrangement should help.
Midships is the oilskin stowage for the crew. This becomes a busy area at watch change and the discipline of keeping the oilskins in their designated places is important. Dressing and getting ready for watches can be quite a daunting task especially in bad weather but like many things onboard it becomes an accepted routine.
Ahead of the oilskins is the ladder down from the cockpit. On the starboard side is the navigation station that I will cover later. On the port side is the Skipper cabin, or should I say broom cupboard? In fact the cabin is fine and is a major area for stowing many of the important stores in addition to the Skippers personal luxuries that he has sneaked on board without the crew knowing.
Lastly the area ahead of the ladder and between the nav station and skipper's cabin is a major gathering and dressing area. There is a large pillar that separates this from the salon which always mystifies people but this is the engine air intake/duct and also houses the loop for the engine exhaust so that water is not siphoned back into the engine manifold.
The log entries are produced from messages sent by both Clipper yachts via their InmarsatC using BT satellite services. The intention is to have them published by 1000BST daily
