Ariel Clipper 0838 GMT 28 June
From Sir Robin Knox-Johnston
Yesterday we moved up to Kangikitsoq Fjord which is further in land and which we were advised by the Inuit was ice free. We spent the night at anchor rafted up to Antiope in this incredibly beautiful area. It is very calm and has very little ice. We have two Inuits with us which makes it even more interesting and they are trying to teach Alex how to catch the masses of large rainbow trout that are around us. They are succeeding - Alex is not!
Chris Bonington and Gerry Gore are ashore climbing and eight others are camping. Rob White succeeded in climbing his very own iceberg.
We will probably go back to Augpilagtoq tonight and then look to see if there is any movement in the ice at the entrance tomorrow.

We are waiting for another report from RKJ and I will post this when I get it.
Please keep information and comments coming back to us. I will be away on the Yachting World Rally for the rest of the week so David Cullen will be doing the web. Updates will be posted by 1200 (as opposed to 1000).

Antiope Clipper 2252 GMT 28 June
From by Mark Hampton (Antiope's Mate)
We are now at anchor in Kangikitsoq Fjord and have been thwarted in our attempts to return to Augpilagtoq. On our arrival in this spectacular fjord a large shore party headed up valley and camped overnight amongst the hordes of Mosquitoes. At 0500 this morning (Sunday) an assault was attempted on a 2039 metre (6,690 feet) peak. It became obvious during day that time would run out and so the mission was aborted. Meanwhile the more senior party meandered up to a magnificent lake admiring the flora and fauna of the region. All returned safely to feast on fresh sea trout caught at a river mouth on the fjord.
Requests for next crew change. Please bring out more CDs, tapes and playing cards and the odd bottle of duty free would also be very useful!
Mark Hampton.
Comments by CdeM
It would appear that Mark, as a dedicated Clipper servant, is not becoming involved in these shore activities and instead has worn out all the CD, tapes and cards while the crew scale the mountains ashore.
We are hoping to have some first hand accounts from crew one to you by tomorrow.

Ariel Clipper 1021 GMT 29 June
From Sir Robin Knox-Johnston
A great day! 9 ashore on walking expedition. 9 camped ashore last night. Two away climbing. We have found an old Viking stock wall and also some Rowan and 4foot high fir trees. Alex and Ian Wetherall started fishing and we had their catch for breakfast. The fish here bite anything. There are strong winds in the other fjords so we have stayed in Torssukatak Fjord. Some more parties setting off ashore again shortly then we will have a look at returning to Augpilagtoq. Crews all happy and Antiope went for good sail in fjord yesterday for fun. The strong gusts that come down the valley sides showed the importance of stowing all the personal gear properly.

Late entry just in. It appears that at least some of the crew are getting extremely fit!
The reference to the small trees is interesting. In my experience flying helicopters in N Norway you could almost tell your altituder by the height of the trees. They get smaller and smaller and then stop at the tree line which is only a band a hundred feet or so wide. The tree line varies according to the aspect of the valley being higher on the south facing slopes.
