Another log posting later than planned as I have been out of the office all day. We have our first post leg 1 report from one of the fearless crew who has returned to the warmer (if not dryer) climes here in the UK!

Please keep information and comments coming back to us. I will attempt to post tomorrows update by 1200 (as opposed to 1800)!

Ariel Clipper 0432 GMT 30 June

From Sir Robin Knox-Johnston

Yesterday, after a breakfast of fried fish we tried to exit but were again foiled. This time we ran in to heavy wind - gusting up to 54 knots! We anchored in the next fjord and returned during the lulls. So at the moment we are safely swinging 15 metres clear of a small berg - which adds to the excitment!

If it eases we will try again.

Ariel Clipper 1514 GMT 30 June

From Sir Robin Knox-Johnston

We have now made it to Augpilagtoq. Whist the wind is gusting up to 50 knots it has driven the ice out. So all we need now are some calmer conditions and we can make it out in to the sea and start our sail to Reykjavik.

The crews are looking forward to this next part and are already planning walking and climbing sites to stop at along the way.

Regards RKJ

PS. The fly nets have been invaluable whilst ashore!

Report by Adrian Petts - Leg 1 Crew member.

The past 17 days have been some of the most unusual days I have ever experienced. All the emotions have been felt, exhilaration to anxiety. Some of the experiences I am unsure I want to repeat - like getting stuck in the ice! The trip across the Atlantic was, by comparison, easier than I had expected. Despite the poor weather at the start and the head winds almost all the way, I really enjoyed it.

The voyage to Greenland was a real adventure. I loved every minute of it and am pretty pleased with the way I coped. I think the physical training beforehand helped make me one of the fittest on the boat! Mentally - well it can be demanding but I managed to stay in high spirits all the time - almost!

So - would I do it again? Well, perhaps to tropical climes next time.

I would not have missed being a part of Antiope's crew for anything. She was a happy boat with a crew that worked very well together. What more could one want?

Adrian Petts

Indeed! A fascinating insight and we hope to have further views from other Leg 1 crew members soon.
