From Richard Ellis, just returned from being a crewmember in Ariel for leg one and two
'It's great to back at work!!' says Richard who is now safely back behind his desk in London.
'I have no urge to have ice in any drinks following ice overdose in Greenland and you can quote me on that! Thanks for all the work on the log which was followed by friends and family every day. I will forward a report shortly'

David Cullen and I will be in London with Taeping until Thursday and so the daily reports will be done on the road. Hopefully we will continue as normal but if there are delays please excuse us. We look forward to meeting visitors over the week end.

We first spotted ice at 0300z and it was a baptism of fire with Antiope following RKJ in Ariel through a rapidly closing gap to open water beyond. We could see mountains over 80nm away with an 'ice wall' visible. Apparently refraction is quite a common phenomena here and you will enjoy explaining it to all the webbers!
In the afternoon we spent the time zigzagging through the floes and the brash disturbing many seals basking in sun as we went. We are now back in open water with little bergy bits around us. The plan is to hove to for the night with a happy hour thrown in and then continue our adventure tomorrow. We feel faintly optimistic about reaching Angmasslik.
Regards to all Charlie

We reached the ice yesterday and worked through a ribbon into clear water to the west. We found a peninsular of brash ice further on exactly as reported by the latest ice chart. We were able to work through this and into an ice bay. Mountains are visible 30 miles to the north. 8 lazy seals sighted; they wouldn't have been so idle if the Inuit were around. Intend looking for lead to Angmassalik today but not over hopeful as the ice chart shows a block 42 miles further in. We hove to for the night with the boats a'hull but the two boats drifted very differently. We started together but are now nearly out of sight of each other. My curry last night kept the crew warm. They are all in good shape and send best wishes. RJK.
