BT - Official satellite telecom supplier to Clipper Ventures

Apologies for the lack of a report yesterday - and the tardiness of today's. We have been busy with Taeping Clipper, which is up at St Katharine Dock in London for a week for PR purposes. We will be putting a full report on the Clipper News column on the homepage very soon - and keep an eye out in the Press for the photos of the daring Clipper '98 crews in front of Tower Bridge. Anyway back to Greenland.

Yesterday was a day of achievement. 18 of the crew went off mountaineering with two of the number achieving the peak of Sofias Fjeld - some 1012 metres high. Congratulations. The temperature has been 22C in the shade, so I think we may be able to boast more suntans here than at home! We may even need some more suntan cream!

The impenetrable ice was clearly visible offshore and moved in to close the port. Calms may clear the ice inshore allowing us to explore further afield. Still the supply ship got through two weeks ago so the shops are well stocked!

The plans for today include more climbing and a camping party to a lake behind a small mountain ridge.

Turning out rainy now so our plans are slightly curtailed! Ian Weatherall has attempted to become the first crew member to swim in the Arctic. Unfortunately he failed as we are just south of the Arctic Circle!

More tomorrow.
