We are finally getting back to our normal schedule of posting log entries and as the PR work at St Katharine Docks finishes tomorrow we expect full regular service to continue!

From Sir Robin Knox-Johnston - Skipper

Clipper took over the launderette in Angmagssalik today and the showers were in full use so evry one is now feeling fresh and smelling sweetly!

Matt and Noel climbed Pollems Fjeld by what they think was a new route - 1030 metres high with 80% scambling and 20% rock climbing - another first for Clipper. Seven other crew went on the long Five Lakes walk so another energetic day all round.

Charlie Osborne (Skipper of Antiope) and I went 10 miles up the coast to investigate Angmagssalik Fjord by dinghy. At worst there was 7/10th ice coverage, but the fjord looked navigable, so that is our objective on Wednesday. We plan to leave at 1000 BST - after stocking up on bread!

News that a number of polar bears have been seen in the vicinity of Kulusuk over the past couple of months has reminded everyone of the need to be aware - although we probably smell far too clean now for them to come anywhere close!

Regards

RKJ

PS. This afternoon a flat and rather large iceberg sought comfort with the yachts so Ian, Mark and Marjolein decided to make good use of it. Playing the Bee Gees they danced like three smooth Travoltas on the ice. This caused much amusement among the crew and astonishment among the locals!

"We thought we were jolly funky!" - Marjolein

From Charlie Osborne - Skipper

We are still in Angmagssalik but are planning to sail tomorrow. Our recce showed that the route is reasonably clear and all are looking forward to getting underway.

The melting icebergs create the most amazing sculptures - I could have sworn I'd seen at least two polar bears! Matt and Neil deserve congratulations for reaching the summit of the Greenland Matterhorn! It looks a very tough climb to us sailors! The other party, having reached the glaicier top, then slid down on bin bags! Completely mad - the lot of them!

The steepest climb I have attempted so far has been up to the hotel - and that is quite enough for me!

Regards

Charlie
