BT - Official satellite telecom supplier to Clipper Ventures

Probably a good time for a look at the big picture …..
Ariel and Antiope are presently both anchored in the top right hand finger of Angmagssalik Fjord. They are about 35 nm north of the fjord entrance and Kulusuk (and the airfield) where the crew change takes place at the end of next week. This fjord is about 20 miles east of the larger Sermilsk fjord. The ice is no problem in the fjord but was very bad on the way in but this should be an improving situation and so they should be able to find a way through with out too much problem for their return on leg 4.

The shore party reached the hut at 750 metres late on Thursday after a hard climb across rocky moraine, a much crevassed glacier and finally some of the party went up a nasty steep rocky surface. The rest of us climbed a 45 degree snow slope with ice just below the surface. It was worth it! The hut had heating and bunks for 10 although there were 13 of us. It overlooked the glaciers that spill into the valley far below. Matt's comment on first sighting the hut was 'It's better than my house'. Nice WC with its door opening over the valley. One can sit there and enjoy one of the most startling views. Definitely one for the good loo guide. (Note: not suitable for a queue after a curry!). Some party may remain in the hut until Sunday.

On Friday I came down trying another route. The remainder in two experienced parties are off to look at the top glacier. The two clippers are still at anchor at the top of the fjord. Malcolm White and Sue produced curry, Antiope produced the rice and their favourite drink, vodka and iceberg.

The Plan is to stay in this area until Monday and then start moving south towards Kulusuk.
