The two Clipper yachts, Ariel and Antiope, are presently in the fjord on the East coast of Greenland. Having completed their crew change and spent time exploring ashore they are trying to break out through the band of coastal ice and start their voyage to Iceland. What is that saying about the 'best laid plans ….'?
We are in for some interesting days.

Hi all!
We departed Ammasalik at 1030 local time this morning but are now returning. We tried getting through the ice 15 miles to the east of the port but it became impassable and with the fog it was a 'no go' situation. We will try tomorrow. Everyone is well and happy. We have sighted some seals and whales and also some local hunters. We are all constantly amazed by the weird and wonderful shapes and colours of the ice. It looks like we will be seeing a lot more of it!
Yes, I will be washing sometime this trip. Paul

Antiope 2112 GMT 3 August
At Ammasalik (East Greenland)
From Charlie Osborne (Skipper)
Unfortunately you will notice that this report comes to you, once again, from Ammasalik! We ran into very thick ice approximately 15 miles from here and we could find no leads in it and there was very little open water. The floes were much bigger and higher than on our way in on our arrival. The plan is that tomorrow we will get as much local information as possible from the helicopter pilots and the Ice Centre. We will let you know how we get on. All safe and sound. Charlie
