Ariel and Antiope are presently about 180 miles to the SW of Reykjavik (The SW corner of Iceland). They are making good progress towards Oban.

Position 61.57N 27.09W
The Wind is now NW force 7. Seas are rough and we are having showers which bring the visibility down at times. We have two reefs in the main and the number 2 Yankee boomed out. Great downhill sailing. Course 110'T speed 9 but we managed a surf at 17 knots. Distance to run to Oban is 742 n miles.

As people are always interested in ETA, and all those involved are always reluctant to commit themselves, I will not disappoint you! But here are the figures so you can work out your own:
Distance to go at 2000 13 Aug 740 n.miles
Speed 9 but say planning speed of 8 = 92.5 hrs plus margin as this figure is very optimistic. My money is that if all goes well they may get in at breakfast time on Tuesday 18th. Anyone brave enough to come up with another ETA?

The log entries are produced from messages sent by both Clipper yachts via their InmarsatC using BT satellite services. They are compiled either by Colin de Mowbray or David Cullen and the intention is to have them published by 1000BST daily (but they are sometimes late!)
