Ariel and Antiope are presently on their way to Oban before returning to Plymouth. They continue to make very good progress.

430 miles to run to Oban. Antiope at 59.12N 18.07W is unable to transmit on her Inmarsat because of a problem with her keyboard. Charlie hopes to be able to repair it. The current weather is NW force 6. The sea is rough with visibility moderate in the showers. This should improve as the low pressure system moves away and fills. Over the last 36 hours we have been running in winds up to 40 knots and heavy seas. This gave us a noon to noon run of 216 miles (9.0 knots average). Top speed recorded was 21.5 knots by Alex (blast him). We have had regular surfs at 17 and 18 knots. All very exciting but tiring. I will be happy to slow down a bit.
The UK Hydrographic Department has come up trumps by solving the problem of us not having a full set of charts for our unscheduled visit to Oban. They have sent the codes for these ARCS charts by inmarsat so we have been able to access them from our CD ROM. What a good demonstration of one of the features of this system; the significance is far reaching.
Regards from all. Jim
