| Abel Tasman is a great paddling destination, not least
because of the numerous inlets to explore and the 4m tides that could
completely change the nature of somewhere you had already visited.
As we left Shag Harbour, Stuart spotted dolphins on the
horizon. After a brief burst of paddling we were soon among them. Huge
Bottle nosed dolphins, up to 3m long easily! The dolphins were interested
in the kayaks only if we were moving, so we had to keep a good pace up
so they could surf along next to and under us. At times we had 3 or 4 dolphins
zooming under our boat. ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS DAY 1 FOR 1999!!!!!
This guy is popping up to have a look at us above water. |
