Mogotes We drove across the island back towards the west and the province of Pinar del Rio. One of the features of the lush landscape of this area are the vertically sided hills, called 'mogotes'. Apparently, the micro-environments on these mogotes are so different that some species have evolved differently on each one! Thse mogotes shown here are near Vinales.
