| Quite a thriving little metropolis 360km inside the arctic circle. Tromso has about 60,000 inhabitants. Being winter, the streets and roads were very icy and slippery making touristing about town a bit tricky. Just for the hell of it, we went to the Tromso Film Festival that night and saw, of all things, an Australian movie called 'The Goddess of 1967'. It actually won a prize! The film was very well attended: a couple hundred norwegians and 2 aussies! We wandered around town, sampling various establishments' versions of hot chocolate (illictly spiced up from our hip flask of Grand Marnier), went out to the Polaria to see the exhibits and check out the rescued bearded seals in their very own habitat. But it has to be said, considering it was so damn dark most of the time, it was very difficult to get up in the morning, and even more tempting to go to bed around 2pm when it felt like midnight! We recommend a norwegian winter for catching up on your zzzzzzzzzs. |
